I recall vaguely having heard from Vincent over at Gratiola that this leave shape will form randomly or something. But it does exist. Perhaps he might see this and give the explanation

usually submersed form will be different from its emersed form
wew.the seller told me that the microsorium is somekind of mutation or whta....

hix,if really it is in emmersed mode,and will become normal n submersed mode,i spent to much money for this fern (SGD15)
We see this 3-leave growth very frequently. It appears to be quite common. Not too sure why it grows like that, but the tri-lobal shape usually develops in the more mature leaves and they do grow submersed. I've had some like this for almost a year, and they are now giving out plantlets at the tips.

waw,so the fern is quite common in spore?what is the meaning of quite common(rare? or very general?)(iam indonesian,not so good in english )hihih,ah,my fern give me a plantlet at the tip,just one plantlet....and i think the fern is very2 fantastic!i just never saw the one like this before!hope its not a emersed form of microsorium :P ......

All java ferns will grow and eventually form the forks that you mentioned, in and out of the water. The ferns are also commonly found in most countries
There are 2 ways the ferns spread, by rhziome or by or the plantlets on the mother leaves. They usually appear as black dots on the mother leaf first.
