Woah 43 yrs is a long time!!! I've hear corydoras can live up to 36 years but now goldfish wins the record!!!
Two years ago, my daughter got a goldfish from a fish farm and still keeping it. I was curions and searched the internet and found that the oldest goldfish on record lived to 43 years. See:

I will see how long my goldfish can go.
The oldest fish I have kept was a "Soon Hock" caught at my grandma's pond when it was small. It grew to about 8" after 7 years. After that it was given away to a friend. I heard it died not too long after that. 7 years was a long time for me. During that period, my grandma's kampong in Jln Ulu Sembawang was redeveloped to HDB flats. And I told my neighbour's then 5-yr old that my fish is older than him!
For those who have kept goldfish, how old did they lived to?
Any other long-life fishy tales?
How about terrapins?

I have some koi (cheap ones) that have been with me for over 10 years now. The suckers in the pond are also over 10 years already.
read that the oldest koi is 200+ years old!
the oldest small fish I kept is around 3 years. Think it was cardinal tetra if I am not wrong.

be kind! =)
Haven't been keeping fishes for that long. Only rekindled my interest two years ago after a long absence. I suppose I have fishes that are about 2 years old at this point in time. Mostly Corydoras.
Cheers,

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Arrowanas live a really long life...i've got a friend that has one that was passed on from his father....the fish is about 40-50 yrs old....
i have cardinals that reach about 6-7 yrs...in a tank of course...in the wild i think they only live to about 4?
My oldest fish is a black widow (tetra) about 4+ years old. I "inherited" it from my nephew who lost interest in taking care of the fish.
The oldest fish in the world is several kois and the oldest is called "Hanako" (can do a search on internet).
My oldest is an Oscar, which i bought it at 1999 and still living now

My dad's crossback has been with him for about 5 yrs, think it came in when it was 2yrs old..so it has been around for 7 years, my guess. My advise to him is not to move or agitate the fish too much.
Cheers,
Andrew
