Which kind of filter is best for apisto breeding tank? Same tank will be used as a grow out tank.

Will a liberty 150 suck up the fries n kill them? Can it be modified in anyway to make it fry safe?

    wat other filters r better?

    thanks

IF your tank is high enough i supposing say its kind of safe. YOur tank is just the common 2ft tank so i suggest sponge filters. Sponge filters will cultivate food for the fry too.
    Cheers!

Most people use sponge filter ( those black round ones ) for fry tanks so they wont get sucked in.
Might want to try that...cheap and small profile
Can use air pump to power it or connect up a powerhead for higher flowrate thru medium

I think to be safe try not to use internal filters nor the hanging filters, this is to minimise any danger for the fry.

The best i can think of and of cos many people will agree is to go for the sponge filters . Top discus breeders i heard uses sponge filters too...you may be the top Apisto breed too =)
    Cheers!

Sponge filters are powered by airpumps, so they help give some filtration to the water as well as aerate the water for the frys. The air bubbles also help to break up protein layer on water surface

For breeding (in my case is always bettas), I use a sponge filter initially. Any other filter will be too powerful for the frys. When they are slightly bigger, I use a corner filter that has slits that are too narrow for the frys to get in. Corner filters with cotton wool, powered by air pump seems to be better at filtering the water and helps trap fish poop inside for easy cleaning. If you try to remove a sponge filter, some of the poop are released back into the water.

When they are 1/2" to 1", I think you can use a motor driven filter as they should be strong enough to fight the current.

All the best in your breeding. It's one of the most rewarding experiences that an aquarist can have

go to a good shop like keong seong havelock

look for those cylindrical sponge which are replacements for power filters like SICCE, HYDOR, etc.

    they are of high quality.

the spong should have a through hole in the middle.

YOu can slot this sponge over the suction inlet of your filter. secure it to the inlet tube using rubber band. If the hole is all thru, then use rubber band to close up the hole at the end too.

your existing filtration be it overhead fitler, powerhead-driven, canister can all be retained.

just have to clean them when they get choked.

Oh i see...Then i suggest you taking the filter media for the liberty out just leaving the sponge to do the job cos the media has to be change every 3 mths for liberty.
    Cheers!
