I was thinking of doing something similar to the rock wall that you have. May I ask if you used any form of glue to stick the rocks together or is just stacked up nicely?

No glue was use to stack the rock wall .. just stack and balance the rock.

Update on the scape.. removed the substrate at the front and top up it with white sand (look better)
Added more nana to the gap inbetween the rocks.
The BBA is almost gone too after i transfer a team of yamato shrimp from my 3ft

    Re: 2ft Rock Wall

Are you not worried that the rocks might fall?
You should try adding Java ferns in between the rocks at mid-high level and maybe more mosses at the bottom. IMO it might look better.

Behind the rocks is also a 10 cm height of soil substrate. Extra horizontal force on the wall.
The rock wall is still holding since setup which is being more than a year. So can say the foundation is solid.
Did add bucep to the scape but it got killed by BBA.

Update on the 2ft rock scape.

BBA overtook the scape and cover the rock with the ugly black beard. Transferred my 3ft tank cleaning crew of 20 yamato shrimp into the tank. They manage to clean alot of the algae on the rock and salvaged some of the plants. The hairgrass behind the scape die and replaced with a easy growing plant that sprout alot of runners and overrun the back of the scape. Currently still suffer from some BBA as most of the cleaning crews are back in the 3ft tank (reason for the transfer back is because the yamato keeps stealing the food i feed to the Kuhli Loach and corydoras.)

    Re: 2ft Rock Wall

basically the scape still remains the same as the last update on 27 Dec 2016. not much changes to the scape. Thinking of what plants to all to replace the plants at the back of the scape.

not sure what kinds of rocks is that, got it at a landscaping company. Use more than 10 pieces of rocks for the wall.

    Re: 2ft Rock Wall

Should be, landscaping companies also use lava rocks to discourage weeds from growing, saimilar effect with pebbles.

It's the same, the porosity do vary but they are lava rocks nonetheless.

    2ft Rock Wall

Perhaps can start tying some moss on some of the rocks to add more green or try some hygrophila pinnatifida?

    Re: 2ft Rock Wall

will be difficult to remove the rock and tie moss to it as the rock is use to hold the substrate behind.
do not know what will happen if i take the rock out.. hmm.. maybe an avalanche

    Re: 2ft Rock Wall

Manage to remove some of the non-substrate bearing rocks and tied some weeping moss to it. The plants at the back which are tightly grown together also helps to support the substrate. So no avalanche occurred during the manual excavation of the rocks.
