    Hi bros

Can i check how much a powerful fan like ans3000 or boyu can cool down a 1.5ft tank? Possible to cool to 25-26c?

Also if cooling down with fan does tank insulation with styrofoam board useful or useless?

Perviously i use tem chiller the styrofoam board tank insulation does help the tem chiller to kick in lesser.

    Thanks

I really don't think fans are able to bring down the temperature to 25 unless your room temperature is 27? It's really hard bringing anything more than 2 degrees below room temperature. But that's my experience.

How do you intend to insulate? Cover the sides and back?

It will help but I do not think it will be to a significant effect.

I personally think that in our climate, the issue is to keep the heat out rather than keeping the cold in. Your light source and electrical equipment running in the tank would generate some heat to warm the water. Maybe you can consider tackling that first.

Hi bro thanks for advice actually i do not have any light or motor pumps running in the tank. I use only airpump to run a corner bubble filter.

I tried tem tec chillers before. But was not happy with them as the consume alot power 200w. They are also loud due to high speed fans dolphin brand. 2 units broke down after a few months unreliable.

Hi bros did a test today. Seems like fan can only cool to 26c. No matter how powerful the fan is .... ans3000 or a slower dc fan same effect only 26c

Did you try if there is any difference with your tank insulated back and sides versus without insulation?

Yeah, there is a limit to temperature reduction from evaporative effect by fan... usually at most 2-3ºC less from room temperature.

You mentioned using Dophin TEM chiller before and not keen on it. The one from taobao seems similar too.

Maybe consider a 1/10 HP compressor-based chiller instead (ie. Heila, Resun etc), if you set it up properly and insulate the tank, the kick out intervals can be extended much longer, so power consumption will be reduced alot. The running costs may work out cheaper (and not as noisy) compared to using a smaller underpowered chiller that has to be constantly operating all the time.

Re: Cooling fan with stryofoam board tank insulation?

    Hi bro urban
Ya it looks similar to dolphin tem
But this one is mounted directly on top of the tank. It doesnt need a extra pump to pump water into the chiller. Also it has much bigger heatsink and fans. Pretty cheap may worth a try. Thanks

No need to pump water through? Is it those types with metal bars that are submerged into the water to cool it?

Maybe can post the taobao link for reference.

It has a coolside cold sink water level needs to be high to use this chiller effectivly

I see... yeah, i've come across a few interesting probe/radiator-based TEC chiller models online too, some of them are quite innovative.

I guess the chilling efficiency would also depend on how well the water is circulated around the submerged metal parts, otherwise there will be temperature variations between different areas of the tank.
