Not yet. I'm avoiding Chiller or even fan. I'm trying to maintain the tank in room temperature. This also to reduce running cost.

    Day 37:
Saw the remaining shrimps all lying dead.

    Something must be terribly wrong.

I measured again and the water parameter is the same as yesterday.

Researching on what else could be wrong.

Sad to hear that. You using API 5 in 1 test kit right? Maybe ammonia spike causes the death on your RCS. Do you do 20% water changes for your small tank? I notice that you are using Azoo bio media right? Hmm, last time i use this brand too. But after that, i change to Seachem matrix.

Maybe it time for you to invest a bigger tank, i will suggest a 2FT. The water parameter will be more stable.

Sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me with my 5 litre tank used to keep RCS at room temperature too. I have since changed it over to live in my 24 litre tank and they have done so much better. I'm convinced that the lack of space means water parameters get unstable quickly. My RCS are now doing very well now, no deaths since I switched.

    Thanks for sharing.

I bought an ammonia kit and it's showing 0.

I did 10% WC recently. Used to be slightly more.

I chose this media because it has numerous function and what i liked most is that it looks like "natural" stone to me.

My far future plan is a 4ft tank on low tech planted tank.
    Not anytime soon though.

So I am again trying such small tank for time being.

I also invested on a TDS meter and it read 113. It has thermometer and it read 29 degree.

I might want to try a cooling fan as the last resort.

Just don't get it what really went wrong.

I'm puzzled with the unsuccessful trials with small tank. I would like to give it another try. This time i have more kit to test and perhaps with a cooling fan too.

Oh! I have overlooked it. I thought 0 was good. I'll look for products to increase the GH. What did you use to increase it?

What do you use to bring down the ph?

Oh, that's also another part that I'm avoiding, to use soil substrate that is.

If all else failed, then I'll look into this soil route. Thanks again for the info.

You can actually copy Evil train... he put the soil in a container and left it aside.. this way will not mess up the tank and provide the buffer...

Ok, tank has been reset and rescaped.

Bought a bag of 10 fire red and 3 already died before transferring to tank.

    Rescape:

    Re: Back with 8L tank

Only 1 out of 7 survived.

I used GH builder as an attempt to raise it. I tried to increase it by 1 ppm per day. Probably i miscalculated, on the day when I saw multiple death, i measured the GH and it was 10ppm!

I did a water change and introduced a few things.

    1.
Since I have soil now, I decided to plant a few more plants and remove the fissidens and moss ball.

    2.
I have bought a fan now. I was able to bring the temperature down to 27 degree celsius.

I bought Seachem Flourish and am dosing it every 2 weeks.

    3.
Bought a bag of 10 sunkist shrimps.

    4.
Water top up will be bottled distilled water.

Will be monitoring it and see how it goes this round.

    Readings:
    GH 6ppm
    KH 0
    pH 6.5
    NO2 0
    NO3 40
    NH3 0
    TDS 224
