how many hours should we ON our UV light?

I got a 9W UV (philip tube), ON for 4hr from 8am to 12pm. however the green water effetc doesnt seem to be completely remove.

4ft tank. 3 months old. all plants inside are growing happyly. fishes and shrimp all ok. but the greenish water come back aft 2-3 day of water chg. installed the UV abt 1 month ago.. but it doesnt seem to totally rmove the green water effect..

1 more thing, my tank is set near the balancy.. so morning sun will hit direct onto tank.. thinking of go ikea buy those wooden blind to cover the windows so the sunlight will not shine direct onto the tank.

I think you need to solve the external light source problem immediately

Yea, the word direct says it all. It'll be better to move your tank.. since that sunlight will generate heat as well.

if moving the tank is too big a hassle, yr plan to install blinds is feasible. jus ensure tt the blinds cut out sunlight altogether.

The UV will do the trick. Just "on" the thing till the water clears up. Keep the sunlight away from the tank and work on getting the plants to grow fast. Something wrong with your tank such that the plants are not taking in the ammonia fast enough in your tank. (Poor CO2/Nutrients or both?).
