Capacitors are rated in Farad. Usually very small: micro, nano or pico Farad (f). The voltage indicated is the breakdown voltage of the device. Hence, it is not enough to quote just the voltage but also the capacitance in Farad during your purchase.

However, if there is only one unit on the said component, it may not be a capacitor.

most buildings FL lighting fixtures have capacitor to reduce peak current during switch on.you can do without it for domestic use.
