    Which direction better?

    I can't really decide.

eg; horizontal allows shadows to form, thus shrimp can kind in between the cracks. vertical looks like the bark of a living tree, horizontal like that of a fallen log..

I'd say horizontal. I always liked long-looking tanks compared to tall ones.

    Horizontal!
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I prefer vertical. Looks more like grain of tree bark.

i agree with BC....i like vertical for this tank because its alreay so wide compared to its depth...besides it looks like tree bark.... oh yes..you do know that if its styrofoam that later on you'll get a white background yes?? the shrimps and snails tend to go at it adn remove all the black stuff..very eyesore one...
