    Hi

I set up 2 tanks for my PRLs....its been almost a year....their set up was identical, and the shrimps are thriving.

But recently one of them has green algae on the glass that seems to be growing very fast, and the water seems greenish. Scraping the glass will clean it for a day before it comes back. The shrimps are fine and I do not see any unusual behaviour.

Should I leave it alone or take some preventive measures now? What measures do I need to take?

    Thanks

If both tanks have identical setup with similar bio-load and feeding ratios, then it looks like one of them somehow has more of the green film algae and greenwater spores which happen to kickstart and maintain the algae growth. Higher accumulated nutrient content and possibly more light (ie. tank situated nearer to ambient light or sunlight from window) could encourage faster algae growth too.

So try and see if you can feed less, reduce bio-load, reduce light, add more fast growing plants, and do more water changes to flush out excess nutrients in that algae afflicted tank. At the same time, dosing anti-algae treatments can help too (use those that are safe for shrimp tanks).

Check your NO3 level. Algea bloom is a sight of high NO3.
