    Hi,

    Anyone tried this before?
    http://www.petfrd.com/forum/articles...e&artid=28

Am interested in trying out, as conventional light sets don't seem to supply enough or cover my 3.5 ft tank sufficiently.
& my plants at the side don't seem to be doing too well.

However, am no electrician or lighting expert , so looking for some one who has tried this out to supervise or experiment with me.

    How about it?

I did some before using 6"x4" air-con trunkings. See samples below:

    Set 1 (2.5ft tank):

    2.5ft, 2x36W, e-ballast (pic 1)
    2.5ft, 2x36W, e-ballast (pic 2)

    Set 2 (3.5ft tank):

    3.5ft, 6x36W, e-ballast (pic 1)
    3.5ft, 6x36W, e-ballast (pic 2)

    Set 3 (5ft tank):

    WAH!!

    Very nice!

You really inspire me to try this already.

Can send me the specifics for the 3.5 ft one?

    Re:

For additionaly safety, you mught want to use a 3 core wire so that you can ground the ballast.

    Got them from weirong.

He told me, he had to order them.
These are supposed to be the widest available, 8 inches (if I remember correctly)

    Thanks thanks.

    Here's the break down:

Bought from members or hardware store
    Aircon trunking - $30
    (8" x 4" approx 4.5 ft long)
    1 x 55w e-ballast (other brand) - $10
    1 X 36 w PL - $ 15
    Nuts & bolts - $1 for 10 pcs

    From NA:
    1 x 2x55w Elbiru e-ballast (double) - $28
    2 x 55 w Osram PL - $ 36
    6 metal light clips - $ 2
    Light holders/connectors - $ 1 for 1 strip (16)
(those plastic things to join the wire & lights together)

    FOC/salvaged stuff
    Reflectors
    Wires
    Plug
    On/off switch
    nuts & bolts
    2 x light clips
    Advise & guidance from members
    Assistance from brother

    Man hours
About 4 hours, might be more but not less (1st time so give chance lah)

    Total cost: $124
    for a 3.5 ft, 146 w DIY light set
I believe the lights & e-ballast can be obtained at cheaper prices if u scout round more.

It's kinda of like a casing for tubes & pipes that run from the condenser to the air-con unit.
So that people won't see these tubes & stuff running all over the place, when they are encased in these PVC 'trunkings'.

The bigger version of those lighting, sound sys wiring concealers.
