    Hi,

    I need help.

I have this small Nano tank that I am keeping with shrimps only.

I overlooked this part of covering up the slit. Now the tank is housed with shrimps and I am not able to empty it to cover the slit.

This is the slit that I am talking about:

I tried to cut some sponge and insert it through the slit but it is very difficult. Unsuccessful attempt after much tries.

My last resort is probably to insert a big piece of sponge at the inlet hole behind it:

Has anyone did this before as in you are able to cover the slit easily?

    Thank you in advance.

Look like the slit is inlet to your filter. Use stainless steel mesh, those that use to tie plant/moss/fissiden, bend it at one end until it look like inverted 'J' and just hook it on the divider.

Yes, the slit is the inlet to my filter.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I will buy one to try.

There's actually 2 different location for these slit.

The one in the pic is at the top, 2 slits are there.

The other set is at the bottom, also 2 slits.

Probably I'll cut another mesh for the bottom and insert it into the substrate. I'm worried that it might not "stand up" well, leaving a bit of "opening" at the side and become a hazard point for shrimps to stuck there.

Do be careful when blocking the intake slots of an IOS filtration system... if it reduces inflow too much or the mesh clogs up with debris, the pump will outflow more water volume than inflow and that may gradually drain out the filtration chambers until the pump ends up running dry.

Oh! That didn't cross my mind. Thank you so much for the knowledge sharing. I'll try to do a couple of experiments with close monitoring.

Somehow I felt like taking out my old 14L tank from the storeroom and setup a sponge filter shrimp tank again.

For this 8L, i might convert it to fish tank instead.
