    Hi,

I just bought an internal filter for my nano tank.

The suction gave way twice within a span of few hours.

Any tips to stick these suction so that it does not drop off so easily?

My internal filter is Aqua Zonic Evo EF-Baby.

    Thank you in advance.

Your tank wall are slippery, try to scrap or clean the wall first

Thanks. I didn't think of that because I just took out the tank from my storeroom. That's a good point and I'll try to give it a scrub later. Thanks.

Some of the suction cups that come with tank equipment could also already have deteriorated/warped and become inflexible (especially if its old stock), so they are not as effective anymore. You can try buying various better quality aftermarket suction cups from LFS accessories displays that fit the filter mount and see if they work better.

Re: How to fix lousy suction of a new Internal Filter?

Thank you so much for the responses.

I cleaned the wall and it gave way again in barely 2 hours.

I don't think I can visit the LFS these few days, so exchange may be a problem. Furthermore I have thrown away the receipt.

I tried removing the suction cap and was not able to detach it even though I gave it a long thud. Was trying to take it out for the hot water bath.

Now I am leaving it standing on the substrate with the support from the power head wire.

I will check out the after market suction cups probably in the weekend.

Thank you so much once again.

    Cheers.

Use a lighter to gently heat up the suction area.. then cool it down with water.. with the suction area wet stick to your tank wall... it will settle your issue

Re: How to fix lousy suction of a new Internal Filter?

I tried it and the suction was stronger initially. I could see the difference as compared with yesterday.

Unfortunately it gave way as well, this time it holds longer than yesterday though.

    I will look for alternative.

Read a couple of reviews in Amazon and looks like other customers have similar feedback.

You could stick it to a magnet glass cleaner by using silicone or strong bonding glue like cryanoacrylate. Let the bonding agent cured for a few days. Check 1st if it is safe for aquarium use, I do not know how many types of it are there available.

another way to counter the weak suction will be use a clothe peg or clip to clip the cable and hold it to the height you want.

    Thank you for sharing.

Another Bro also shared that this filter is generating more heat. I intend to get a replacement instead of doing a mod on this piece.

That's a great idea and it reminded me that I should have some rare earth magnets lying somewhere..

Heat generation depends on the wattage of the filter. If it is only 3-5watts. The heat should not be that great.
