I have been research a lot into the setup of the palidarium, one area I can't seem to find enough info is how to maintain the filtration systems for the setup. Be it a simple pump to circulate the water or rain at to maintain the humidity. The information I gathered did not specify how to access these components for maintenance. Most of the setup videos I see seems to be a setup and forget about it kind of arrangement. The idea of having to tear down the setup having to maintain them is not appealing to me at all.

What i m asking is if the plus arum setup is supposed to be maintanence free or it that part of the information has been withheld from the many videos I gahave seen because it's private information.

Consequently i I have been thinking of a way to create an accessible setup, but the end state setup does not seem natural. Appreciate the experts sharing their experience in this.

    Re: Paludarium filter maintenance

    Hi dragoncube,

It's been a while since I have setup this small tank around June 2012, and I have only washed the filter once or twice because I need to shift the location to a different area. I basically make use of undergravel filter as my pre-filter, and feed into my old Eden 501 filter which came out through the rain-bar against the foam background... I also added a layer of ceramic rings to help on the bio filtering, supposed to hide them from sight thou....

I think you don't have to tear down the whole setup if you design an opening to access the water pump... The opening can be hidden with some plants. Also, the water pump does not have to be maintained so regularly... I think maybe once a year or if it breaks down. The rain-bar might have to be cleaned every 2-3 months due to algae growth in the pipes. Basically the paludarium is very low maintenance, apart from occasional glass wiping, water topping, and plant trimming. The pump does not clog as the water that is pumped is very clean, since it is already filtered by the substrate.

Just sharing the experience from setting up my paludarium...

Maybe you could share with us your setup plans too

You could build a simple cover using styrofoam which is removable for easy access to the filter just like in the video. He uses a semi-submersible filter in this one and in another video he uses a simple water pump. You can draw out some of your own inspirations from there. I really like his videos and he's talented, to say the very least.

Watch from 36:05 to get a rough idea of what might interest you, if watching the entire video is a chore. Then you could restart and watch it in it's entirety.
