the green neon (Paracheirodon simulans) is smaller, compared to the more robust, deeper bodied neon (P. innesi) click here. There's less red on the lower half of the body (it also shows only when the fish is in good condition), and the 'neon' stripe is greenish blue rather than light blue.

green neons are better behaved than neons which can get quite nippy. they are also all wild-caught.

    Green Neon Tetra

I have seen green neon tetras that shows only the green strip across their body without any red portion at all. However, every time I buy green neon tetras, their red portion always shows. Does the red portion grows out of it as the fish gets more climatized? How to keep these fishes such that it shows only the green strip?

    Please advice.

    Thanks

the red is always there but the intensity depends on lighting and mood. in a very dim tank you will not see the red, that's why most black water fishes are red, because red appears black.

Interesting. I saw at Kingfisher's display tank, the green neons only has one strip of green across. The red portion is very light and close to being clear.

Will wait and see the results of the fishes mood in my tank.

anyway in my opinion a large school of green neon makes a stunning display in a dim tank too bright and they look like faded cardinals haha.

haha like I said, "in my opinion" only

for big bright tank with open swimming space I recommend Inlecypris auropurpureus.

some what related to a danio, endemic to Inlé Lake of Northern Burma. Maybe still available from Gratiola. Get a school of 20 or more.
