    Hi guys,

Today I just saw a hole in my MC carpet. Any idea if it could be due to any of my fauna below?

    SAE
    Oto
    Netrite snails
    CRS
    Cherry shrimp

The rest should not be a suspect since they don't dwell at the bottom.
    Cheers,
    Joe

Looks like a rabbit hole in the forest.

Most likely that particular clump of MC just happened to get loose or melt and the shrimps or other scavengers ate it (or it detached), the other surrounding MC should fill it up in a short time anyways.

Now that you've mentioned, it does look like a rabbit hole haha.

Yeah, it should fill up in a week. But was just curious what could have happened - guess that particular clump could have just melted.

By the way, when do we decide if I should trim the MC? I've read that you would need to do that when it reaches a certain thickness else the bottom would rot and whole clumps may float up?
    Cheers,
    Joe

Usually you would trim carpet plants when the bottom layers start to show signs of browning or melting (or if it grows too tall and starts to look messy). After some time, you'll get an idea of when to trim the carpet plants to maintain fresh growth.
