    Excellent question!

I don't fancy shrimps, so I only refer to fish-keeping all the way, especially goldfish.

Anyway sorry that I can.t give any comments on shrimp keeping requirements as I am a blur sotong when it comes to shrimps.
The only shrimps I know are the expensive freeze-dried shrimps I used to feed my bumpless Luohan.

I don't foresee myself keeping any shrimps at any time. Maybe I will buy another Luohan, though.

Hi UA Thanks for the plecoplanet URL on breeding of soft water species.
The fact that Neils Jensen was able to measure, document and share his findings with this valuable meter go to show that right tools are important for scientific approach toward learning.
As a matter of fact, TDS values are more relevant than pH / temperature in my hydroponic tomato harvest as far as juiciness/taste go.

It is good to keep a sample of the lowest TDS water for future reference use, if possible one with a 0 TDS reading.
That would be a good way to 'calibrate' the meter.

Just to add, i recently tested a new bottle of Giant brand distilled water, the TDS came up to 0... could just be variations in TDS meter measurements (maybe +/- 5ppm?), or it could also be that the other brands like Life, NTUC and Dasani are formulated with abit of extra minerals/sodium to generate better taste for drinking purposes.
