    Hi all,

I looking to grow carpet HC plant. Currently using around 20w LED lighting. Is it sufficient for HC plant growth?
I read online, seem like HC plant is very demanding of lighting.

That is a very informative video ! By the way, is LED light of 20W sufficient for 60cm and height 36cm tank? I mean in term of HC growth.

Btw, i kiasu lol, i fix up two lightning, running 18w and 20w lightning = 38w of lighting, hopefully it can helps. I also crank up my co2 to 2-3bps.
Can see some pearing on the HC, hopefully it is a good sign ! Wish me good luck !

No la, my setup lightning is ugly, just temporarily. Actually i dont spend a lot of time in aquarium setup. Initially i really did spend a lot of time. Hehe, after a while, you will get sick of it. Haha, now i start new project by rescaping my tank, so spend a bit more time. Usually, i lazy to clean the tank / filter or even WC unless needed lolz.

    Hemianthus callitrichoides

Some veterans here grow them from emersed then to fully aquatic.

    Re: HC plant question

key to HC growing is CO2 for me. medium-low to high light is possible too. There is no use in stating the Walts of your light as it also depend on the depth of light to plant.
I managed to grow HC in my 422 using 6 54W T5 tubes, depth from light is about 60cm, CO2 is around 30ppm + daily dosage of Seachem excel 20ml. Plants are from Tropica 1-2 grow. No melting since day 1 and almost carpet fully in 1 month time. water temperature is around 26 degree. lighting duration about 6-8 hours.

    My tank is 2.5x1.5x1
30ppm is about how many bubbles per second thou? And I'm using Seachem Flourish is it enough?

When setting Co2 injection systems, the bubbles per second required will differ between setups. The actual Co2 level depends on your Co2 diffusion efficiency and plant take-up rate... you'll need to use a drop checker to measure the Co2 levels.

As for nutrients, Flourish supplies mostly micro/trace nutrients, with a tiny bit of macro nutrients. Its nutrient content is quite conservative, so you need to adjust the dosages to match your plant density and growth rate. If you are already supplying ample Co2 and lights, and your plants are still not growing well or not as quickly, then have to look the plant conditon and increase fert dosage or dosing more specific ferts.

Possible, but the overall HC growth will be very much slower... the difference in growth rate can be many months (without Co2 injection) vs just a few weeks (with Co2 injection).
