    Feeding Boraras Brigittae

I've just acquired a school of Boraras Brigittae in my planted tank with MC as carpet. I plant to feed them with OF SuperMiniature MicroGranules as their mouths are so small. How do you feed them such that the MicroGranules do not sink to the MC carpet and cause decomposition. How do Boraras Brigittae owners feed their fish?

    TIA.

To reduce food sinking too fast and disappearing into the substrate, just feed in small amounts and wait until the fishes finish eating the food, then feed abit more.

Or feed floating food pellets/flakes, those will stay on the water surface for a longer period of time.

Personally i feed my fishes with New Life Spectrum Thera+A Small Fish Formula 0.5mm pellets, but i further crush the pellets into powder size and scatter them on the water surface, the tiny granules stay floating on the water surface for a while until eaten.

You can try pulverizing the micro granules on a suitable hard flat surface with a butter knife. Then sprinkle the powder to float on the water surface.
If they are not used to being fed that way, you will need to train them for a few days. It's surprising what training can do to their feeding habits.

I did try to feed my late Boraras Merah with Ocean Nutrition's Instant Baby Brine Shrimp eggs- small enough to fit their tiny mouth and buoyant enough to stay in water column.

Back when I had them, I feed them with very little hikari frozen daphnia. They will go into a frenzy and dart around and lunge at those daphnia bits. I just drip a tiny bit into the water column until their darting activity starts to slow down and thats the cue for me to stop. Fed them twice a week only as I wanted them to control seed shrimps in my tank.

I offer Hikari First Bites, chopped bloodworms(frozen), frozen brine shrimp, frozen daphina, boiled egg yolk, shrimp wafers(pounded into oblivion ) and any aquatic feed I could get my hands on. They seem to enjoy a varied diet in my aquarium.

Do your brigittea school? Curious as I've kept more than 50 in one tank before and they don't school. I fed them floating powder food too. Switch off the filter during feeding so the food stay afloat longer.

Yeah, the ones i keep don't really swim together in one big group unless they are avoiding something (ie. during tank maintenance), most of the time they just hang around in groups and shoal around loosely. Their natural swimming movement is in short movements (ie. dart-here dart-there type), not smooth swimming in a school like rummy nose tetras.

They are really nice though. Some of mine was from Seaview which is cheaper but color wasn't as nice. However after proper feeding, their colours start coming out.

Are they under any stress with bigger or more aggressive tank mates? They seem to be staying only at the top of the tank? Mine tend to stay mid and bottom tank.

I normally press the food against the side of the tank to prevent them from dropping fast.

    Re: Feeding Boraras Brigittae

I'm currently feeding them using a pipette and squeeze a few MicroGranules at a time into the tank at a designated spot every evening. Seems like the BB is now trained to expect food from that corner. I'll stop when the school cannot snap up the bits fast enough before it sinks to the MC carpet. I'll leave it to the shrimps to finish off those few lost bits.
