    Hi all,

I'm about to start my first planted tank and now planning on the EI dosage.

    Setup Plan and Spec
    - Tank: 60 X 45 X 45
    - Substrate: ADA Aquasoil
    - CO2: 30ppm with inline diffuser
    - Light: Dimmable LED, will set to medium (2 X 4hrs)
    - Scaping: target to create a simple rock scape with carpet MC. Probably also stem plants at the back

Based on this calculator (http://www.aquariumcalculators.com/a...imative-index/), I suppose to dose 3x a week the following:

    1.9g KNO3
    0.69g KH2PO4
    4.5g MgSO4 (I may not add this)

    - KH2PO4 is easy as I can get the powder form.

    - As for KNO3, the solution provided by Dr Mallick is 5% content, does it means I have to dose 40ml each time?

Is the EI dosage too much?

    Re: Dr Mallick NO3 Solution

I just bought the Lushgro Potassium Nitrate solution from Dr Mallick.

It is written on the label that 10ml of 5% KNO3 liquid to 100litres gives 31ppm of Nitrate and 19ppm of Potassium

However, based on 2 calculators I have online, it shows otherwise. (See attachment). Can anyone who is using this liquid share how do you dose?

    Yes exactly...

I understand that EI is supposed to be an estimated way of dosing. If the ppm indicated on the label and the online calculator differ by a little, that's fine.

    But now is 10x differences...

that means, assuming your tank is 100L, when you drop 1ml, you will add 3.1ppm NO3 and 1.9ppm K.

    My tank is 3ft, around 150 - 165 L (minus hardscape volume), if i drop 1ml, i will get around 2,3ppm of NO3 and 1.3ppm of K

    Re: Dr Mallick NO3 Solution

Hmm, I was doing this simple math and this is what I thought

    1 liter has 19000ppm

If I pour the whole solution into 100 liter, it dilute by 100x. So 190ppm

So if i pour 100x lesser (10ml), it dilute by another 100x. So 10ml should be 1.9ppm?

    Dr Mallick NO3 Solution

Your analogy could be right, it's almost impossible they dilute 500gram kno3 in 1liter bottle to match the label ingredients.

May clarify with them in such case, or try to implement your analogy and see what happen with the tank

I will buy from them and try it myself according to your finding

I don't think the lushgro is diluted directly with KNO3 powder as it also contains other trace elements. So your selection of KNO3 from the site is wrong. Best is to wait for their reply on the level for N and K and do keep us updated as many is using the same solution as well.
