    Hi,

I just bought a 120cmx50x50cm tank with a wooden cupboard base, I am wondering whether it is still necessary to place a mat under the tank since tank is thick enough and the cupboard is able to absorb the weight evenly, please advise.

    Thanks.

A tank that size will need a mat underneath it.

Thanks, I am looking for a good mat now, was at the fish shop near my place earlier but they don't sell the mat, any idea where can I get a good quality mat for that size?

    Hi Ian,

To be honest I use good old fashioned yoga mats under all my tanks - find a decent one, it was cheaper than the branded mats from the stores, plus there are a lot of colours to choose from, I picked purple as it provided a great contrast between my tank and blue-grey ADA style stand.

Yes, the white Styrofoam base with slowly shed white dust after a few years and it is quite annoying.
You can get something like this

Thanks to all bro who advises, well I went with the yoga mat since I have 1 in my storage, it was not used for some time but still in good condition and quality is good too so better not waste it. It is really a good alternative to those highly priced aquarium mat and I can cut it into the required size as well. Hopefully I can reported back with good news if my tank still hold up after a few months.

I think you do need a foam mat. You can buy like those craft foam from Popular. I think that should work. What I personally like to do is to put a plastic sheet, those used to wrap book, over the foam to protect the wooden cabinet
