Dose AlgaExit and introduce many yamato shrimps. Ensure adequate CO2 and nutrient dosing too.

You have to reduce your lighting, take note how much fert you dose and slowly reduce it too and manually remove the algae.

Cut ferts, CO2 and possibly lighting for about 2 days and up your water changes.

Do a 48 hour blackout? Thereafter, multiple partial water changes.

Show us an image of the algae for us to advice you how to eliminate it. Sometimes aquarist wrongly identify and therefore wrongly treat to clear an infestation.

Ytd i brought API Algaefix. This product is very very strong. Please take note of the dosage and it is not shrimp friendly.
I can see my tank hair algae is like fading soon. Will continue to monitor and feedback soon.

I also use API Algaefix. Eliminate all hair/thread/fuzz algae. I also extra dose seachem flourish excel as I have a bba outbreak at same time. But I remove my livestock. Took me at least a week to see results for both algae. I continue normal light and fert regime during the treatment. No WC. Also had BGA and GDA. Used erythromycin for bga. So it was a chemical warfare. Now I'm free of algae except GDA.

Having gone thru so many algae bloom infestation, my current approach of eliminating instead of controlling using ei dosing is the best.

Only point to remember to quarantine plants and livestock once algae free.

By the way, Yamato shrimp is really very effective on fighting hair algae !! I put 10 yamato shrimp and it clear away 80% within a day.

Yamato's do help to a large extent, BUT, if provided with surplus fish food, they will not be effective.

They cannot continually just eat hair algae.

Eliminating the algae spores using chemical warfare is my most effective everytime I lapse in preventing algae introduction in my tank.

Re: Effective way to stop green hair algae

Agree with the chemical thingy is the most effective way. I got two tank, one is purely setup for shrimp and another is planted with various livestock

Tank 1 planted- Continuous 2 day dose with API algaefix- lost 5 malayan shrimp, 2 guppy, the rest live stock seem to be ok. Can see the hair algae is melting off
Tank 2 Shrimp setup - I dont dare to dose chemical, as i had PRL, Wine red, BB, KK,etc etc.. I throw 10 yamato into this tank, it really clear away all my halr algae and to be fair this tank hair algae is minimum but it seem like growing fast too. Other of my shrimp never touch the hair algae and they are quite picky with food. Yamato really eat hair algae, hardworking and like constant hungry, but it always snatch away the food and run away lolz.

Anyone what is the ideal water parameter for Yamato shrimp? This morning i saw one yamato dead, probably die during molting. The rest of yamato molted quite nicely too.
My water parameter is meant for PRL setup. Probably that yamato is weak?

Yamato shrimps are quite adaptable to a relatively wide range of parameters... they usually do well in PRL/CRS type setups too.

Probably the one yamato shrimp that died just happened to be a weak specimen that couldn't adapt in time.

Yamatos are quite sensitive to copper sulphate. They can only withstand 3mg/l according to a research done by professional Aquarists. Copper may have entered via copper pipes that have been releasing copper sulphate due to wear and tear but actually that is quite rare.

My tank hair algae almost 80% gone. Tks to API algafix, can see my shrimp 70% KO lolz. Do a water 50% water change, throw 20 Yamato shrimp. I also add seachem prosguard and it is recommended by seaview boss. After 3 day later, my hair algae is almost all clear. Hopefully it will maintain. By the way, I don't do any blackout period. Just reduce to 4 hour lightning.

Algafix not safe for shrimps, snails and some fishes. If use,be prepared for casualties. Some algae will not dissapear and will look like the solution did'nt work. My advice is use it for a week or two. Water change heavily and then add in cleanup crew.Yamatoes will be best.
