Hi when converting will the leaves dry up and grow new ones or they will slowly harden to adjust to the emersed environment?

Re: Converting bucephalandra from submerse to emersed

Usually there will be a transition period when those plants convert between submersed to emersed (and vice versa), in some cases a portion or all of the leaves may melt away, then new adapted leaves will grow back again. The important thing is the rhizome is healthy (that where it stores all the nutrient reserves to regrow new leaves).

What most people do when converting those plants from submersed to emersed growth is to keep them in a high humidity environment during the transition, like a tank or container that is covered to trap moisture. Then gradually decreasing the humidity levels over a period of time. Do note that they still do need a relatively humid environment to grow even in emersed form, their natural habitat is along the edges of streams and rivers where they are exposed to rising and falling water levels.
