Sigh... lost 5 out of 6 pearl gouramis in the last month . Could not figure out what it was until the last 2 died. Normally they start loosing their appetites and then one day they start to swim funny. Next day they sink the bottom and die 2 or 3 days later. When the last two reached the final stage, I noticed tiny, almost microscopic white creatures hanging on to the fishes. Also saw small white (< 1mm) worms burrowing their way OUT of one of the fishes. It also had a few other holes on its skin.

Am I correct to say its an internal parasite infestation?

How can I treat it (in case my last fish already infected)? Most of the medications I have seen at the shops are harmful to plants. Is there any medication to try that does not affect plants and invertebrates?

    Thanks.

But I do not see the parasite until the last stage. The white creatures I see come in 2 forms. The first as a small dot that can swim in the water and the other wormlike.

Anyway, how would I treat anchor worm? Salt enough? Or medication?

    vinz

look at your fish very closely....if it is anchor worms, there should be some visible signs on the body.....some could be encryted by a globe or bubble.....the adult anchor worms will lay their eggs in the fish itself and the young will either burrow out.

best cause of action is to haul out infected fish and treat with coppersafe.
