you can follow the PPM calculations on the bottle itself. i recall it being written there. Just got to do some math to customise it to your tank size (400L in your case).
Hi,
was never good with my Chemistry. Appreciate if someone could help me out here.
Since KNO3 is not sold in powder form, I was only able to buy it in Liquid 5% form from Ecohydroponics.
Assuming my tank is 400L capacity, for every 10ml of 5% Liquid KNO3 I does, what is the ppm for K & N that I'm adding?
I looked at the various dosing calculators online but they're all for powder, not 5% liquid. I don't know what 5% means either, is it by gram or ml?
Cheers

Hi,
I was searching and managed to find the answer

{It is written on the label that 10ml of 5% KNO3 liquid to 100litres gives 31ppm of Nitrate and 19ppm of Potassium}
So, 10ml to 400 L gives me 7.75ppm of N and 4.75ppm of K, am I right?
This makes it much easier to understand

Hmm...seems like you're right. If I key in 0.5 gm (instead of 10 gm, given it's 5% concentration), it gives me 3.1ppm of Nitrate. I'm assuming it's 1gm = 1ml (same as water density but I know it's not. Shouldn't be too far off though)
Seems like not much bang for the buck then.
Think I might switch to dry (Calcium Nitrate + Potassium Sulphate) instead, instead of liquid Potassium Nitrate (5%).

hey i'm using calcium nitrate too as my nitrate source. don't mix calcium nitrate with other sulphate into 1 bottle as it will precipitate quickly into calcium sulphate. I learnt it the hard way.

Folks,
I wrote to Ecohydroponics who are the retailer for HPC. They have called back to confirm that their label is indeed wrong. A very polite customer service lady went back to check and confirmed it for me.
It is written on the label that 10ml of 5% KNO3 liquid to 100litres gives 31ppm of Nitrate and 19ppm of Potassium
The correct concentration is 3.1ppm Nitrate and 1.9ppm Potassium per 10ml to 100 Litres.
Guess that clears it up.

Just to add, she stressed that by law, they are not allowed to sell the solution above 5% concentration.

So disappointing. I just ordered 2 bottles of KNO3 and the labels changed to 100ml of 5% KNO3 to 100Litres gives 31ppm of Nitrate and 19ppm of potassium, which means to follow EI dosing, one 1L bottle($14+) can only last about 2 weeks only for a 400L tank.... Rather go back to Calcium Nitrate and Potassium Sulphate combination....
If not keeping GH sensitive live stock, Calcium Nitrate is a good option

Actually if you have friends in JB, you can buy KNO3 powder in Malaysia, mixed it with RO water, to make 5% solution, and bring it in to Singapore. I think that is legal right? What do you guys think?
