    I found that some aquarists DIY their own root tab with gel capsule and terrestrial slow release fertilizer.

    I use them, but be careful of using too much as many/most of them contain ammonia as a nitrogen source and if your plant uptake rates is not high, your tank ammonia levels will rise. Otherwise, it works quite well for a very cheap cost

    There is a thread last year about root tab, and was using Plantacote that buy from Far East florist. I'm using it as my base fert, so far no issue but I'm not keeping sensitive live stock.

    Personally, I use Aquasoil so I don't require these Root tabs. I have had very very bad experience with Root Tabs once when I was working on a low-tech aquarium. The root tabs disintergrate after some time and when I do a gravel vacum of the substrate, the root tabs cloud up the water column......
