Did you recently put the piece of driftwood in? Either way it's most likely either a bacteria bloom (highly likely) or biofilm. Both should be completely harmless to the tank as a whole however it's no aesthetically appealing.
Hi all,
Can anyone help advice what are the whitish growth on my driftwood.
Are they harmful and what should I do?
Thanks in advance!

spot on, the wood had been in the tank for less than a month.
Agreed on the aesethetical part and I believe it will worsen over time.
Is there a way to remove the whitish film permanently?

It will eventually go away. However right now you can try and just clean it up with your bare hands and keep up with water changes.
Thanks. Might just do that if I can find a cheap and big enuf pot.

Easier way is buy a syringe then fill the syringe with Flourish Excel
1)Turn off your filter
2)Spray the Excel on the wood wait for 15 mins before turning the filter on again
3)If you have shrimps they will go over an take care of them.
Tks for all the suggestions. U guys rock!!!
