While waiting for the new tank (5 x 2 x 2) to run-in, I am now considering what fishes to keep. Any comments on the type to have?

Should I have a community tank of mix fishes OR

    Neon Cardinals OR

    Rummies OR

    ????

my preferences would be rasbora harlequin/espei, don't know why but I prefer having them than tetras. Maybe you can also consider having main fishes as well. I had rummy nose and congo tetra in my 6ft. Which makes a good combo.

My 2 feet tank used to have 30 rasbora harlequin. Beautiful schooling fishes but too acrobatic. Lost several due to airborne jumps. YES! thinking of keeping them in my 5 feet too. Like the bright golden/reddish colour when they are stable. Any idea where can I get in bulk? Gan don't seem to have them.

hmmmm.. I think easier for you to order from lfs. I personally prefer espei from harlequin.

yes, they are slightly smaller than the harlequin. I have a few adult ones which bred in my tank.

I prefer not to mix species from the continents. e.g. rasboras and barbs are primarily from Asia/SEA, while tetras/characins are mainly from south america, and rainbowfishes mostly from PNG/Australia.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

I bit hard to do that, even for Armano.

He has yamato shrimps, SAE and Otocinclus as algae crew. These are not from the same continents already.

I think if it's a big tank, get more fishes for impact. Perhaps golden pencilfish? About 40 cents each for a bag of 100. Goes well with any South American dwarf cichlids or suckermouth catfishes.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Nope. Didn't shoot this one. I was lazy and didn't shoot a lot of the fishes in my possession, especially when they weren't corydoras.

If you are going to get Harlequin Rasboras, please give mine a thought. I have about 40 left in my tank, all mature with deep, orange bodies.

ahh my favourite Rasbora vulcanus, very beautiful orangy/red and purple sheen on the males once they are in condition. very under appreciated as they are not that good looking while in the LFS. Commonly misnamed as R. reticulata which only occurs on Nias island (yes, that Nias island).

anyone planning to go Nias island for surfing?
