Decom and re-setup, your soil buffering effect maybe gone.
Hi guys, need some advice. My shrimp tank PH suddenly spike and I got no idea why. I haven't done anything to it.
I've tried solution like Mosura PH Down, Tantora Catappa Bark, removed all ceramic decoration or any form of decoration left with my driftwood and cholla wood only but the PH still remains high.
Any other recommendation?

To change the soil... best is to net out all the livestock into a separate temporary tank (filled with the existing old tank water, with a seasoned filter or at least an air stone), then remove all the old soil, add new soil, run the filter for a day or two. Test the water parameters, if everything okay, then do a slow drip acclimatization the livestock before introducing them back into the tank. Acclimation is important because the new tank parameters will be different from what they are used to.
If you find that this whole periodic changing of substrate exercise is quite a hassle, there are other alternative methods like just putting the soil in a container into the tank. With that method, as the soil is progressively exhausted, you can just remove the container and gradually change portions of the soil to new ones. Easier and less hassle.

Why not top up the soil rather than change soil. You just need a funnel and a long pipe and can top up abit everyday

Powerhouse media soft. Use it, the PH will go down to 5.5-6.0. Tested and proven, but the buffer life is 1 year or so.
