    Hello guru,

I recently notice this growing on my mc.
    Image1461671518.148673.jpgImage1461671518.148673.jpgImage1461671531.733286.jpgImage1461671539.616755.jpg

I have searched for afew options but i cannot id the algae.

Is this thread algae or staghorn algae?
I have manually remove the leaves outside the water but after 3 weeks, its back. My bm and fire red are not eating it too.

    Any solution?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah, that looks alot like staghorn algae... quite a tough algae, usually shrimps can't eat it when the algae is healthy and growing rapidly.

I guess manual removal, along with a combination of anti-algae treatments to weaken it and adding more shrimps could help. Maybe also try adding a few yamato shrimps, their larger size and strength might enable them to pluck out the algae more effectively.

Hmm if that is the case, algexit looks like the treatment i should get... Research went by it will not take immediate action, but slowly weaken the algae.

I try not to get Yamato. By using the treatment and it weakens the algae, any chance my current shrimps would be able to settle it?

Current population are 100++ and counting. Saw another post recommend to stop feeding the shrimps so that the shrimps will be starve and forced to eat those algae.

Does starving sounds like a good idea to accelerate the crew to work? Currently i am doing culling from this lot to improve the bm's short rostrum

Its worth a try... run the treatment and don't feed the shrimps for a few weeks, see if the algae gets cleared up.

If after a few weeks the algae is still persistent, then probably have to consider other more aggressive methods.
