    Hi all,

I have a 2ft planted tank with rcs and other smaller fishes in it. All are still fine as of now.

Am contemplating starting a pure crs tank using a 30cm tank. Either 14l or 27l. For such small tanks, is it advisable? .

    Thanks all for advices.

Best is 2ft unless you know how to control the water parameter properly.

    'Tongpang' this thread.

Does any bros know where I can buy a ready-built 2 1/2ft (30") tank? There don't seem to be any around the shops.

    bro pai,

when you say control the water parameter, what do you mean? If you are free, would appreciate you to elaborate abit on this.

As much as i would like to have a 2ft, space is limited in my house...

There's no need to be very technical about it all. Basically, all it means is to give your fish clean water to live in. If you regularly prepare a container of clean aged water for frequent partial water changes, there's really no need to go through all the hassle of testing the water quality. Fish are happiest with clean aged water. But of course for the sake of knowledge, it is good to understand the science of water quality as well.

Expect a change in water parameter every time you do a water change. It will be more significant with a smaller volume of water (smaller tank) which affects the live stock.

    Re: Advice on tank size

The amount of water to change, regardless of tank size, is usually measured in a percentage. Thus, a 20 percent change will dilute the toxins in the same ratio for every tank.

But smaller tanks should be changed more frequently because the water fouls up quicker due to the smaller volume of the tank. This is an important factor to note, especially when smaller tanks tend to be usually overstocked plus are fitted with smaller bio-filters which are barely able to cope with the load.

For shrimps, mostly nowadays many will be using RO/DI unit or DI unit to do water change for their shrimp tank.

That's true, especially for shrimps, which are more sensitive to water quality. If you are serious about going into shrimps, you need to invest in the necessary equipment, such as RO/DI water filters, cooler or chiller, etc.
