It'll help bros here to reply if you can show pictures of the worms in your tank.
Hi all, I've just started my tank for about 3 weeks. Everything was fine until I discovered a few white worms (1-2mm long) on the fish tank glass 3 days ago. Last night, all the four walls were covered with white worms. No fish has died recently so I don't think it is affecting them.
I followed the recommendation from another thread and bought a few galaxy fish, and they have started eating away the worms. My guppies and tetra are also munching on them since I have reduced their feed. I am unsure whether this will help to control the worms population.
I would like to find out the following:-
a. Are there any other methods to kill off the worms?
b. Are the worms harmful to human?
Thanks for helping.

These worms usually appear if you overfeed your fishes. It's not harmful to your livestock and it can be considered beneficial as it eats the uneaten food, preventing an ammonia spike. I feed my fishes lesser and it disappears after a few days.
Thanks fuurr. This is one photo of a adult worm. What is the name of this worm?

Those are just detritus worms and nematodes, very common in most aquarium tanks. Small fishes will eat them. Some people culture even them as supplemental live food for fishes and fry.
If you really want an exact ID, have to use macro lens or USB microscope to take close up photos of it, then can differentiate the variants.
Generally the worms are not harmful to humans, but for added safety when working with aquariums, always wash your hands after touching tank water and ensure your hands have no open cuts or wounds. There are many other unseen parasites and bacteria in an aquarium that can infect humans, so its always better to be safe.
