bought a few plants yesterday...removed the pot with the wool [was told before that it could be pesticide soaked], rinse the plant thoroughly 3~4 time in a pail half filled with water [the water was changed 3~4 times].

YET WITH ALL THESE, THE YAMATO STILL MASS-DIED ????? wonder if we need to soak the plant overnight to play safe. I will do it next time.. I hv wasted $12 worth of yamatos not to mention that they hv to suffer before death.

I thought after my ignorance the other time of throwing the plant in before removing the pot, i should be able to be safe by rinsing but how come still the same problem????

Do you have any other critters in the affected tank other than shrimps? How old is that tank? I usually buy plants from LFS (farms are too far for me) which usually has critters swimming about along with those potted plants and have no such related issues. Its always a good practice to wash and preen/prune the plants before planting them though and perharps a large water change along with it if you stir up the substrate for some reason.

    Regards

I can see a sudden behaviour change in the yamato. They started dashing around as if something is very wrong in the water and some even put their heads out of the water. The neon and cardinals in the same tank were ok.
Where do u usually get your plants? you mean the LFS has got shrimps in their plant tanks?

This is something that happens too often, and I wonder what the real cause is. I personally suspect anti-snail treatments being used either by the LFS or the originating farm. Generally anything that kills snails, kills other inverts like shrimp.

I'm wondering if we should indentify the LFS involved... maybe thru PM. Perhaps a member friendly with the LFS can go and find out what could possible be the cause. If it happened to hpeter's shrimps, did it happen to other people too?

Identifying the problem will also help future members.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Vinz, funny thing is that the snails, small/big, were ok. The last 2 times [today/ the day before]were the worst encounters, even I had rinsed the plant quite thoroughly. For the 2nd time, i managed to rescue 8 big yamatos in one of my home tank, as I was standing nearby to look out for signs of trouble after the fatalities in my office tank the day before. Within seconds, these fellows started dashing around. Instantaneously i knew what happened, quickly net them out to another tank. Hope to see them alive when i go home.
The plants were bought from 2 different lfs. Don't wish to mention names here, but will definitely check with them the next time i visit. One of them was pack in water-filled white-styrofoam container on the floor in one lfs and the other was in a tank at the other lfs. No signs of critters in tank.
Sad to see those shrimps dying, not so much on the $, but more on my ignorance.
