The shop at Jalan Bukit Merah is Simply Cichlids. It's about 5-10 min walk from Tiong Bahru MRT.
You must have misread something - scarlet badis are never $8. They sell for less than $2 at every shop.

C328 sometimes they write alot of things on the tank you might be mistaken for something else probably.
Don't know is it the season now, saw quite a fair bit of cichilds in various LFS
Hahaha. ... I used to brought it from the middle LFS at C328 for $1.2 each for individual. If u buy in pre-pack (the corner LFS) is 10 for $10. I saw them the picture from my handphone, initially the uncle there mistaken it to be cichlids. Have to tell them is small like cherry shrimps then the uncle knows where he put. Hahaha. ....

One thing you have to bare in mind, the badis sold here is not as colourful as the internet picture you show. I think they are like betta, only show their true color when they are angry. 😂 You can't find female badis in Singapore (I don't know how true this is?). The male badis are very territory. I used to keep 2 in an A4 size tank. The dominant male will fight until his tank mate dead.

These beauties don't take dried food. They do well with frozen blood worm. Try keeping more than one male and give them enough space and hiding places.
They will occasionally start small fight and it brings out their colors when they flare.
I like these badis! too bad cannot find female to breed them...
C328 used to have them in packs of 10 inside the tetra tank
