Ok problem which i m facing are small little particles circulating inside my planted tank, thus making it abit blurish. how can i get rid of that?

8x3x3 tank, Currently its on sump tank and running on 5800l/hr. some of the particles also land on the plants, very unsightly.

Any bros got any gd ideas?? i also using two wave makers.

Re: Fine Particles in Planted Tank

Wow bro I finally see someone with a huge planted tank too. I'm currently running a 6x2.5x3 planted tank and I'm facing the same issue. I'm using wave makers which (I think) helps but I still cannot completely eradicate the particles.

Been running my tank for 3-4 months? And kindda getting used to the particles haha

Mind showing a photo or video of your setup?

We need more huge planted tank people. I'm running a 6x2x2.

How bad are your particles? I can see particles in mine from side view only, but not from front view. Maybe cause I have white background. But no particles resting anywhere visible.

I used to just have the standard one PVC elbow outlet. But have since DIY'd a rainbar that runs almost the full back length of the tank. Main reason was for circulation and CO2 distribution.

Circulation is excellent now, but have to admit detritus takes longer to reach the overflow. But overall, no noticeable increase in accumulated detritus. Could be stuck behind though.

Return pump is a Eheim 1260 but it's throttled by a 30% closed Eheim valve in the return hose.

I will want to know how you plan to "change". Catching fishes in mine is already a pain in the neck. You're talking about tetras in a planted 833 haha.. Where do you stay? Invite me over someday to see see look look.

Considered getting Angels and discus before? Haha

Thanks for sharing bro. You DIY a rainbar to your outflow pipe? Can see a photo? Do you use any wave maker?

    Fine Particles in Planted Tank

If you zoom in you can see particles floating around. And I'm not the most pleased with my lighting sighs.

    Not using any wave maker.

I'll try to remember to take photos, but it's quite easy. Just buy PVC pipe, joints and end-cap, mark where you want the holes, and use a slow drill like those used by plastic model kit builders. The important part is calculating the number and size of holes. The total cross-section of the holes must not exceed the cross section of your pump output nozzle. This is to ensure (1) uniform strong flow from all the holes and (2) no super jet streams.

I didn't zoom, but saw some particles... pretty big. Do you have a lower intake for your overflow?

What about the lights are you unhappy about?

I do have a lower intake but I guess the hard scape might be in the way, affecting the circulation.

My bottom fishes, i.e. Wolf fish and rays always disturb the bottom tho. Sometimes the ray will swim up to the planted area HAHA... Cute but stirs up a lot of drama.

My lights.... Don't really bring out the color of the arowana... Unless at a certain angle/position...

That's probably it. Some stuff will never float high enough to be caught by the overflow. Good that your fishes stir up the stuff. If only your lower intake isn't block.

It's the same for all overhead lights. Only way is to do one from the front, but that's ugly. And I feel probably uncomfortable for the fish eyes.

But from the video, seems like your lights lack the red spectrum...

I might have some time tonight or Tml morning. Gonna try a rescape to free up the lower intake.

Yeah I agree I think my lights lack the red spectrum. I do have one row of lights from the front but it's all the way to the top and blocked by the cabinet "lid". It helps when the Aro swims pass, I can see the colors haha..

Another issue I have is algae... Furry algae on the wood spreading to the plants sighs...

Re: Fine Particles in Planted Tank

I'm toying with the idea of making a hang-on lower intake to supplement what I have right now. Where the built-in intake is.

What's the nitrate level for your tank with so many monsters in there?

Just realise you have bigger algae crew headaches then me. I just have one monster to worry about. I guess you can't have any small algae crew in there. Even snails won't help... I'm guessing the ray would love them for lunch.

Possibility of a large algae nibbler that won't middle the plants? A large pleco?
