Only realised that there's lots of silicone under the tank base, will it effect the base support or should i cut away myself. Just worried it will leak.

Yeah, locally custom made tanks usually tend to have more excess silicone around the thick seams... you could use a pen knife to carefully trim away any excess silicone you can, but make sure not to cut into the actual seams.
If unsure, then best to just leave it alone.
Too bad , after boiling for 5 times tds still increase from 80 to 200. No luck.IMG_4118.JPG

Boil ? Serious ? Wait until you use soil then see how much tds there is .
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

I intend to keep low grade crs, low demand plants like christmas moss , mc , rotola rotundifolia red and some bolbitis.

Boiling for the last time, pray n pray TDS dont increase so much.

I am curious what boiling rock would achieve ?
How did you come to the conclusion that boiling rock will lower tds ?
What is it that you find with the tds reading ?
Does the tds reading tells you what specific element is present ?
The end result of boiling rock is that the water volume will decrease as water turns to steam and evaporate away leaving any solid behind . I am still confused what this exercise is trying to achieve . Since you got a reading from the tds meter , the next logical step is to determine what that reading number stands for and whether it is beneficial or harmful . If you test for something , you need to know what is there . A tds meter gives you a broad reading of solid material in the water but doesn't tells you what is it , whether its harmful or harmless .
Same as our nose , we breathe in air but we do not know what is the makeup of air consist of . I do not advocate the use of tds meter in aquarium as you are testing for something you do not know what the level represent . So many element might be present in the water but it can't tell you what it is . A lot of aquarist have not grasp this yet and it alarmed me .

i learned from youtube that people boil driftwood to kill any harmful substance or bacteria and therefore i assume that this applies same to hardscape rocks.
Yes you are correct in the bacteria or bugs that is hidden in the rocks.. but now you boil because you are worried of the increase of TDS which I think BFG and myself think is not very necessary...
To keep sensitive shrimps, it is best to keep without rocks. as you are saying you are going to keep some low grade CRS, I think that should be fine...
Alantpcb , hope you do not be dismayed that you did something 'out of the ordinary ' . When you were boiling the rock , did anyone at home ask you about it ? Boiling the wood is to remove tannin so that it does not colour the water as most aquarist wants crystal clear water . However , you need bacteria to thrive in an aquarium as they consume some of the element and turn it to some useful by product for plants or live stock to consume .
To successfully keep an aquarium functioning is to ensure the water is teeming with beneficial bacteria . Once you lost this basic life form , your water quality will start to deteriorate . This is why cycling the tank is very important as it ensure the majority fittest beneficial bacteria population is able to sustain itself in the long run . Once the correct type of beneficial bacteria is able to established itself , you are safe .
Hope this helps !
