impossible, only fish are dwarf gourami, rummy nose tetra and cories

Maybe there's not enough algae for it to eat so it could have starved to death. I previously had an algae eater which died for no reason too while other fish in the tank remained healthy and active.

Actually now I can remember I bought 3 algae eaters when I had a lot of algae in my tank. They quickly cleared up the whole tank within one or two weeks, then they took turns to die one by one due to lack of algae. I regretted buying 3, I should have bought 1, because they are good at eating algae. They will starve and die without algae, unless you train them to eat algae wafers. It's just like puffers will die if they don't have snails to eat.

You can train them to eat algae wafers when they are hungry. Training needs a lot of patience, because they will reject any new food. The trick is to give them a little bit when they are hungry. At first they will not eat much, but it is important not to leave any food in the tank. Continue to give a bit at !ong intervals. When they are very hungry, they will nibble. Once they are used to the taste after many tries, they will soon begin to eat it like second nature, since algae wafers is made from algae.

When I put algae wafer in the tank, the other fish like Rummynose tetras and even Amano shrimps come and grab the food. Otos normally quite slow and shy, then they got nothing. Sometimes, I put blanched zucchini and frozen green pea (peel the cover) and the otos like it too.
I had my otos died before without any clue, too. I guess it depends on the individual that adapt to the environment and living style in your fish tank. We just try our best to maintain the good quality environment for them, but some will be the goners even we do our best.

If you have Amano shrimps in the tank, they often clear out all the dead fish by consume it up within a night.

You can check the surrounding of cabinet too. I has some fish missing mysteriously last time and found it behind cabinet. I don't really want to put the tank cover since it looks not so nice. Sometimes, water quality change or temperature increase/decrease or even our movement around the tank make them stressed/panic and jump out.
