    Hello everyone,

Recently I bought 6 Leopard Angelfish and 4 Bue Angelfish from an LFS in Clementi. The tank has barely reached its 1 month maturity and guess what, my angelfish spawned last night. They eggs were mostly white and the 2 biggest alpha angelfish were ferociously guarding the eggs, chasing everyone else to the other corner of the tank. However they disappeared this morning and I assume that they must have ate it up. Is this a good sign that the tank has matured? And how can I collect the eggs in future if they spawn again or is it safe to let the parents raise their own young in the community?

    Tank Specifications:

Lighting: 2 X Hi-Lumen GreenElement and Beamswork LED
CO2: 3-4 bps pressurized with solenoid running about 5-6h a day
    Substrate: ADA Amazonian Aquasoil
Filtration: 3ft Sump with bio-rings and foam
Plants: Tall, grassy plants as well as Amazon Swordplant and some moss and Carpet hairgrass
Tankmates: 5 Clown loaches about 1.5 inches and 2 newly introduced Spotted Plecos

What was strange was that they did not lay their eggs on a broad leaf plant. Instead, they laid it on the side of the glass, directly opposite the filter outflow pipe. Do they do this because they prefer a slight "breeze" of water?

    Thanks so much in advance!

    Cheers,
    Happydanio

One month old running tank should be mature enough.

angelfish breeding required a dedicated tank due to very smal fry they produce. Even they are in own tank, very common fro the parrent to eat their first, second and third spawn. If the egg fungused after one hour, your male is not mature enough.

    hope can help bro.

    cheers

If you can some how find a way to remove the eggs, than you can do artificial hatching / breeding in another tank.

if not remove the confirmed pair to a new tank to do breeding.

Separating the breeding pair from the rest would be a good consideration as the pair would incline to be very aggressive while protecting their spawn. Very often the fight would lead to serious damage especially if tank is too crowded or small. If you choose to remove the eggs, unfertilised eggs will turn white and have fungus on them very soon, and the fungus can spread to the rest of the eggs even if they are fertilised very fast. Adding methylene blue will help stop the spread of the fungus.

Raising baby angelsfish can be a very satisfying hobby, especially if you have a beautiful pair to start with and are able to devote a lot of time to their care. There are two ways to raise the young fry - by letting them remain in the same tank as the parents, or removing them to a separate tank. The former is preferred as the water is already good for their survival, whereas a separate tank will cause them to be in a 'hostile' environment thus making their survival rate a risk, especially for beginners.

If kept in the same tank as the parents, one needs to prepare beforehand, a separate contraption or compartment which is out if bounds to the parents, but offer good oxygenation at the same time. The fry can be transferred to their own tank when they are bigger, since the parents will breed again in two weeks time. Always leave the parents in the original tank if you want to continue breeding more..

Search YouTube for one or two tricks used by enthusiasts.
