    Hi,
I have a 4ft planted tank and have vallisneria on the sides of the background. They are propagating very fast, about 1 new runner every 1.5wks.
The trimming of the length is taking too much effort every week.

I have hair grass on the foreground, growing happily.

Can anyone recommend some slow growing plants that require low maintenance?

    Thanks.

To add one to what Simon recommend. You can also try Ferms, Bobits, Windelov.

Beware some "echinodorus" can grow very fast. Like the smaller ones E.tenellus, E.quadricostatus.

Other reasonably slow growing ones I have tried are Alternanthera reineckii, Lobelia cardinalis.

Another one, real slow, probably will take you more than one year to fill up a 2ft foreground: Cryptocoryne parva.

but they requires little maintenance right? I wouldn't recommend E. quad though

    try moss. they grow slowly.
nanas are good too but overexposure of light tends to lead to spot algae though

I'd second to that! my coffeefolia and petite nana leaves are now covered with spotted. It is just pure exposure to light. However, my Java fern doesn't seem to be affected though. I suspect it has got to do with water current.

Yea, place them near the water currents. Can monitor the situation easily.

    Hi,
I saw that many LFS had tied down the Crypts onto wood.

Question : Can I plant crypts directly from the gravel? I want to create a dense
corner at the sides of my tank.

    THanks.

Crypts do better planted in the substrate.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

I bought some Crypto from the Tropical Aquarium Plant farm in Pasir Ris on Sat. There was a shortage of Crypto, I only manage to buy 3 bunch of green variety and 2 bunch of the baby crypto - the man told me that these will not grow tall.

I placed them directly onto the gravel and observing them now.

We'll see how it goes from here.

    Thanks guys!

I got the Hair glass from the same plant farm at Pasir Ris.
I have already a partially carpeted area covering about 50% of my tank. Since I got the few bunch of Crypto from the farm, I got some Hair glass from them - Free!

Just curious why you would not recommend e. quad?

I got a few from a forummer last week... collected them at night under quite dim light and they look OK. But in the morning, I discovered that they were very pale and looked like they were going to rot away. The member who gave me the plants assured me that the LFS had told him it was a very hardy plant which would grow under any condition! Is that true?

Oh, OK, thanks. I misunderstood... because you were warning about its fast growth, whereas Simon seems to be suggesting something else with his 'though'.

    Hi Soni,
I don't have the exact address, but I can give directions.

Go in from the SMCC factory. At the end of the road, you'll see some pet hotel, turn right till the end. You'll come to a left bend. Take the bend. Go for about 100m, the entrance of the plant farm is on the right side.

Once inside, you'll know that you are in the right place if you are parking in a dis-used basket ball court.

    Good luck!

    MS
