one is to sell away
2nd is to give away
Got a strong sample from one forum buddy Realcaster. Not only does it keep giving out side shoots, the side shoots quickly establishes into thick stem plants and grow like 2-3 cm per week. Its really a pity to cut and throw away... but its fast taking over my 2ft tank given that it has taken over nearly 40% of the planted area...So what to do to make it grow healthy and slowly?

You have to constantly trim and remove (then either sell, give away or toss out), thats the weekly job of planted tank keepers with stem plants. Its underwater gardening.
The more you trim the more shoots branch out anyways, which gradually creates the dense bushy effect. Thats what most aquascapers are aiming for.
If you want to slow down their growth, then just reduce light, reduce Co2 and reduce nutrients. Everything will slow down.
Reducing lights, fert, CO will cause my other plants to go up the lorry...
Just curious as to why this plant suddenly go through this spurt growth phase... I have always thought that it was a slow and picky grower, like its cousin Rotala Florida. Florida doesn't grow so fast in the same tank though.
Yeah, thats the challenge with growing aquatic plants... there will always be different growth rates and speeds to balance. Just have to keep trimming those that grow faster.
I guess the rotala sunset you got probably found the tank environment ideal for it, so it flourish quicker than the rest. It can out-compete the other plants for light, nutrients and Co2. Getting good quality ones from a fellow aquarist helps alot too, plants in healthy submersed form do tend to transition and grow much faster.
Yes. Realcaster's tank was blooming when I visited him for the Rotala Sunsets. Snail free, algae free.
I can't say that for my current tank though the sunsets are doing well. I daily harvest at least 20 pond snails from it to feed my puffers. And algae is a constant battle.
Just a curious thought, could all the rotala sunsets in Singapore now originated from Xiaozhuang's sample?
Hi bro Plantedpot, you still have overgrown sunset to share or sell?
Hello Plantedpot, thanks and in fact i love to keep some snails but most of the snail that goes into my tank will be died.
Too poisonous. LOL.
