1) never will, intensity will drop but not colour range.
2) a little, but u need 2 bulb for the spread.
I was told by an LFS that the 150W MH that I will be purchasing comes with a 10,000K bulb. He says it is alright for plants as it would degenerate after a while to about 8,000K. How could this be ?
Would 2 x 150W MH be overkill for a 4 x 2 x 2 feet tank?

I have Dymax Hi-Lux lights 2 x 150W & FL 2 x 60. for my Tank 122cm (L) x 61cm (W) x 76cm (H) or in inches 48 x 24 x 30. It is life in the fast lane, the lights are really intense and I would recommend a chiller.Originally Posted by cbong

Hello Andrew,
My chiller will start at about 27.0 and drag it down to about 26.0. The intensity of the lighting and heat needs to be appreciated to be believed. I have mine about 6 inches off the surface of the water.
When I first got my lights I tried them out on the empty tank, well it was like having a lighthouse in the living room, no need to turn the other lights on. Even now with the tank filled, the livingroom lights are usually off... with just the tv going.
When there are ripples on the surface, the dappled shadows can be seen in the water {and ceiling}.
Buying lights is not a simple purchase; I could write a couple of pages just on the mistakes/near misses/ considerations that I influenced me.

Bah, you will get used to it. 10000K is fine for plants. Your eyes will slowly adjust to accomodate the blueness of the bulb. So thats why you think its temperature has fallen.
