Hi everyone, I have a 55 gallon and I am looking for a surface dwelling fish. I want a fish that will not eat my other small fish like ricefish and lampeyes. And is able to tolerate a little chase by my angelfish in the first day. Is a known jumper(I like fish that jump to catch bugs, they are cool). Is alright with some water flow and quite alot of floating plants. Thank you!

The popular top dwelling fishes would be clown killifish or hatchet fish. Those fishes stay right at the top of the tank pretty much all the time. They stay small too, so will not eat your other equally small fishes.

Both can be accomplished jumpers... though its frequently out of the tank and onto the floor.

I've kept clown killies before, really cool but they get chased by my lampeyes because the lampeyes like to chase each other and thought the killies were their kind. I've considered hatchets but they are quite pricey, but it is on the list. I was thinking african butterflyfish or golden wonder killies ever first, but they will eat my fish.

You can try harlequin rasbora or rasbora espei. This fish tends to jump and hunt down flies hovering below aquarium lights.

dont think there's any nano fish that jumps out for his prey other then arowanas or snakeheads, to spawn maybe but not a top dweller , half beaks like to stay on the top

I went to my LFS. Managed to get only 1 silver hatchet, sad because it was the last one. I am going to try ABFs since there is people who have them with neons, guppies and even galaxy rasboras and shrimps! Golden wonder killies not so sure yet.
