    Airtight Auto Fish Feeder

I'm looking for recommendations for an airtight auto fish feeder. Criteria:
    - Airtight. Singapore is just way too humid and fish food will go stale pretty fast. I looked at a few models (Eheim and JBL) and they come with built in air pumps or attachments for air pumps to ventilate the food chamber to keep the food dry. But as most people who live in Singapore know, our humidity is too high for that to work.
    - Can accomodate and dispense Hikari Food Stick for Carnivores (i.e. won't choke the mechanism). Roughly 12mm x 2.5mm cylindrical sticks.
    - Programmable for multiple feedings per day.
    - Adjustable feed portions.
    - Needs enough capacity to last 10 days or more. This is hard to gauge for my arowana pellets. I'll go figure how much that'll be and update.

    Does anyone have recommendations?

So far I've only found one model that fits my needs; the LifeGard Intelli-feed. Just not sure whether it can dispense my pellets properly. By comparing with reviewers hands in YouTube videos, seems large enough.

Did you think of putting a small silica gel desiccant bag in the compartment? I never use the automatic feeder before but think it might help to keep the fish food dry somehow.

The way most of them work, the pack will very likely end up blocking the dispenser.

    Limz_777,

I did consider taping the silica pack inside the chamber... But that wouldn't be a good long term good solution if I want to use the feeder on a regular basis. Plus I don't think it'll help much over 10 days if the feeder is practically left open above a moisture source like a fish tank. Auto feeders are too expensive to buy and experiment with.

I checked out the F14... It doesn't have enough compartments to do multiple feedings over 10 days. I'm looking at least 4 feedings a day.

    Thanks for responding.

Yes, the Intelli-feed comes with an optional (i.e. sold separately) power adaptor. But I think it only works on 110V power supply. Waiting for response from the company.

    Re: Airtight Auto Fish Feeder

How much is the amount you feed per day, i am using the ehiem which spin once, twice daily no issues of the pellets blocking the opening and the interval between top ups is surely more than 10 days.

But i can foresee your issue if you feeding *Foodsticks , their size is pretty big so the serving portions that drop from the opening might not be as consistent. (i feed AR-G2 small + hikari cichlid pellets)

    *saw the foodsticks*
If you want i can try see if they do drop out properly at night for you. But you need to count how many sticks per feed.

My Arowana went on CNY mood, refusing foodsticks and ar-g2 which he had been eating for the past 6 months

    Re: Airtight Auto Fish Feeder

Normally, I feed 40 to 50 sticks in one go every morning. If he is still hungry in the evening, maybe 5 to 10 more. For my trip I'll probably reduce to 4 feedings of 10 thoughout the day, just to make sure he's hungry enough to eat them up quickly and they don't end up in the sump or as SAE bait. Once he's mostly full, he'll ignore the last few pieces of pellets and wait for the SAE bandits to come for them. Then he tries to catch them. After a few attempts, he'll finish up the remaining pellets.

I expect the portions not to be consistent, but as long as the average is about there. Plan to get a feeder soon so that I can experiment before my trip.

Thanks for offering to test. You bought the food sticks? I'm feeding the normal ones, not the jumbo one.

Mine went through a partial food strike too, eating only half is usually in the few weeks before CNY and half-heartedly. But it still tried to bait the SAEs... Suspect he managed to catch one and might have decided to keep trying. Now back to normal.

My SAEs are down to only 11 from initial 20 and subsequent re-population. Only witness 2 being eaten, but my guess most if not all of the missing were caught and eaten. He also tried to eat my Starlight Plecos. Of the 3 only 1 remaining. The other 2, he tried to eat, but he couldn't swallow them.

This fellow has also learnt to trim leaves that grow into his regular routes.

    Re: Airtight Auto Fish Feeder

I alternate between AR-G2 (in auto feeder), Hikari Food Sticks (hand throw when he begs for food) http://www.hikari.info/tropical/t_06.html , MP on alternate days.

Now he totally dun eat pellets, just gulp , chew, spit it out and let the EarthEaters and Uaru eat.

I try on the eheim tonight and let you know.

Yah , just stuffed a few to his MP last night. Hopefully he will go back to his old diet.

This picture is 40 sticks in the container so i think can fill alot more.

I tested the "dosage" , cos of the size and shape the output is not constant. But my results were varying from 5-12 sticks per rotation, with 7-8 sticks slightly more often.

    Re: Airtight Auto Fish Feeder

A long overdue update. In the end, I ordered the IntelliFeed Fishfeeder.

Up to 4 programmed feedings a day and up to 4 feeds (or doses) per feeding.

Runs on 4 AA batteries or an optional power adapter which I didn't get because it was 120V.

Keeps the food airtight and the pests like ants and roaches out.

Recently discovered that Oase has the exact one which can be found in Singapore. https://www.oase-livingwater.com/en_...000203827.html
