Erm, not sure about ehiem lily pipe. But it dont look nice to me. Still prefer the full glass type. You confirm your guppy death is the cause of lily pipe? Or it is already dead and then stuck there?
2 adult female guppies died after getting stuck in the flowpipe in one month.

Full glass lilypipe is nice but expensive.
Bought this cheap Eheim flowpipe but guppies swam inside, got stuck and died.
Just want to warn others about this problem if they have guppies and intend to buy this item.
These are meant for outflow, to distribute (or redirect) water back in your tank over a wider area than say a spray bar. If you use it for the inlet, that creates a mini vortex that sucks in unsuspecting fish.

I agree , fish do usually avoid being suck into wavemaker and such . But if you use this as an inlet , it might cause the fish death . If thats the case , wouldnt the fish be in the canister filter already ?Originally Posted by Dscheng

still a mystery how they ended up stuck in an outlet?
unless the connector is ill-fitting (can't imagine Eheim products being incompatible within the brand) and the guppies got sucked in the back of it.
@OP - only the guppies? what about the other breeds?
Cardinal tetras and cleaning crew all ok.
I only noticed the guppies will sometimes swim against the flow into the flowpipe.
The problem is the flowpipe is not hollow like normal lilypipe so fish can get stuck in it.
I have since bought a glass lilypipe to replace the Eheim flowpipe.
they have salmon blood LOL... or like Nemo, trying to escape. Glad you found the cause.

Wow, your UP aqua U series still working after 2 years...
Adjust the outlet mouth at a less acute angle, the steep upwards angle you currently set creates too great a vortex that nearby fishes can get sucked into it and get trapped within the strong whirlpool effect inside the mouth. Especially for weak fishes or those which can't swim well.
Look at the angle of a normal glass lily pipe:

The lily pipe mount angle should ideally be like that (less acute angle), you will still get a mini surface vortex effect but not too great that it traps weaker fishes. Any fishes which swim into that mini vortex will just get safely pushed away instead.
