depends on what plants you want to keep and to what extend you want your tank to look like.
there are plants that don't require CO2 and chiller. like nana, ferns, crypt, amazon sword, ozelot, all these will survive..
Hey all experts, jus wan to know isit possible to keep a planted tank without co2 and chiller? Currently having a 422 tank with sump tank which im keep ranchu. Keen to try planted but dont intent to purchase new equipment. Plan to keep around 50pcs of neon tetra 😬

Will it affect the fishes if no chiller? Maybe will look around for a 2nd hand chiller. But confirm wont be getting a co2. If not CEO sure f jia lat jia lat
get CO2 more important then chiller..
CO2 cheaper than chiller and less heat dissipated no noise also..
chiller is more for plants and shrimps, keeping neon no need chiller.
I would agree to have CO2 for nice planted tank. Maybe get small canister set type. Set to slow bubble rate.
We can have such like NT$2300. That's abt S$100.
Not sure those fish and plant mix well though.
Thanks for all the inputs. For co2 isit more worth it to invest in a co2 cylinder + all the other necessary parts or using those co2 tablets?
There is starter package cylinder set in a box of all you need. Not sure is on sale in SG. Taiwan shops and online available. Just saw one like NT$1600 only.
invest in proper cylinder CO2... tablets are useless...
Do carpet grass need co2 to survive? Plan to keep low light plants.
From the heading of your thread and some of your comments, i gather that you're sick of your ranchu and want a simple aquatic garden to help you better de-stress, something hassle free and not have to spend too much money with the conversion. So my advice to you would be to keep plants that don't require CO2 or chiller like what "fireblade" suggested. When you use CO2, your plants will grow faster and better but you'll also be inviting a whole list of potential problems that will drive you nuts. And when problems arises, you'll need to tweak this and that and constantly change water to reset the water parameters which will in turn drive your CEO nuts because you are spending too much time meddling with your tank and also because of the water dripping all over the floor from the water changes. In the end you'll sure to give up the hobby.
Go to Youtube, other aquatic websites or the sub-forums here to get some inspiration on Non CO2, low tech and low maintenance set ups. Good Luck!

can you believe it, my monte carlo grows well without CO2
CO2 is only one factor. If the MC are getting sufficient carbon from other sources in addition to N, K and P... they can grow well. The OP will have to try to replicate similar conditions in your tank to get the same effect.
I also agree with you that it is possible to do without CO2. Chiller is really optional.
I think the key is selecting the right plants. I think 'plant-scape' might be a more useful concept for OP. Choose simple plants like anbuias, swords and java ferns and arrange them to complement a nice driftwood.
I think can use normal sand also... save headache later.

I kept them floating in my betta tank with sunlight only
What is OP?
Besides, just to share, I converted to non CO2 end last year. Anubia and crypt do pretty well in my tank, somehow my java fern not growing, s.repens barely surviving, buceps slow but picking up...no erosion of my nerrite snails shell..previously with co2, my snails doesn't last long except pest snails. I removed fast growing plants like rotala and hm, save me a lot of time on trimming...
