I have only a simple tank setup for my guppies. Three walls are meant for java moss.

I got gravel in the tank. What plants should I get for the base? One that do not need lighting and CO2?

If fertilisation is needed, how should I go about doing it? The tank is already established, so I dun think I can remove the guppies and gravel to do anything drastic.

    Please advise. Thanks in advance

Does your tank get enough sunlight if you do not intend to have artificial lighting. Without sufficient light, growing will be a bit tough. Even in low tech tanks, artificial lightings are used as supplement. I don't see how adding a light will disturb the inside of your tank.

You may want to try mosses and java fern but they are not suitable for foreground, if that is what you mean by base. Temperature for mosses should be low too. Alternatively, you can try Echinodorus tenellus or Hairgrass.

I know a duck, someone, who keeps a tank on top of his cistern and according to him the tank is doing well. It may work for you too.

Most people do not fertilise their low-tech, non-CO2, slow growth tanks. Feedings for your fishes also provide for your plants. So, feed generously.

Well then use artificial light. How big is your aquarium?
