Hi all, need some advice. As title above, how to remove sump tank from bottom cabinet for cleaning and refurbishment of cabinet? Can I temporarily remove the center plank? It's an old 422 and not running. Thanks in advance.

I assume you mean the center "leg" between the cabinet doors?

If so, yes. That's how they put the sump in, in the first place.

I would recommend for safety reasons:
    - Visually inspect that the cabinet is largely intact and there are no weakened areas in the load bearing framework. Things like rot, termites, warping, cracks, etc.
    - After removing the tank, put the leg back in place and secure with at least one of the top and one of the bottom brackets.

Ya, I mean the center leg. The cabinet looks ok, no rotting or termites, but with some water splashing mark. But have disgusting roaches droppings... previously owner didn't take care well, I can't imagine how bad was the roaches infestation.

I actually didn't see any metal bracket install, just "C" shaped wooden support at top and bottom. I think I can slowly knock it out...shall take some pictures and share...

Here's the picture. Found that there's no metal brackets on top or bottom of the leg, there's only 1 screw on top screw in from the C wooden bracket. Manage to removed the leg on right, but can't take out the sump, will try to remove the leg on left, it has a stripped screw...

Did you check whether those are quick release door hinges?

For stripped screws, maybe try this hack?

I haven't tried it myself, though.

Re: Removing sump tank from bottom wooden cabinet

Yup, it's empty. Just got this used tank set. I don't have such rubber band, so I used latex gloves and electric duct tape method, doesn't work...next step probably cut a slot on screw...if still can't work, I might just give up taking out the sump...Just clean as much as I can...

What's the problem you have there, BFG?

Lucky my cabinet, both left and right have doors can be removed and sump can be slotted out.

Re: Removing sump tank from bottom wooden cabinet

lucky you I decided to leave the sump inside and clean as much as possible, not perfect but it's acceptable now.

Besides, found that screw extractor kit probably easier to remove a stripped screw...
