    Hi,
I have a 2 feet tank with 2 x 10 watt T8 fluorescent lights. I'm planning on a planted tank so will need additional lights. Can anyone advise on a T5 light ?

Re: Need additional lights for 2 feet Boyu tank

Personally I would just go for LED fluorescents are more energy intensive and also produde unwanted heat...

Most T5 lights are sold in light sets unless you want to buy the ballasts and holders yourself and install it above the tank but that's unsafe.... It seems that there is no space above your tank so you might one to consider changing everything to something more efficient if you really need the extra light.

    Cheers,
    Happydanio

You can try seaview I've seen small light sets for 2ft tanks. The cost is about $30-$40. Look out for good brands like Green Element and Beamsworks.

Question, with tank like this plus additional lights, it won't have this green house effect meah? Do you install additional fan or do you use chiller?

Re: Need additional lights for 2 feet Boyu tank

I don't think the greenhouse effect will work in this case becuase the light isn't compeltely enclosed within a glass container. Chiller/Fan is only necessary if your water temperature needs to be exceptionally lower than ambient room temperature (Approx 27-29℃). Keep in mind that chillers consume a lot of energy and fans cause rapid evaporation...

For my Aquarium I use 2 Beamswork 3ft lights that are on about 7-8h/day. Without chiller my tank stays about 29℃. Ti reduce the heat gained from lighting, try to use LED and raise your lights higher above the aquarium to reduce radiation from lights to water surface.

I have this Classica which you can see the holes I made. Without it, the water temperature shoot above 30degC. When I put my hand in the water, I can feel it warm. Initially, I added a fan from behind. It doesn't help until all the holes are in placed. A friend of mine highlighted this as greenhouse effect. Without an escape route for the evaporated vapour, the heat transfer of the system is very limited. That is why I wonder how people maintain their water temperature using an enclosed tank in an equator country here.

Yes, I modify the lighting as to lower down the temperature but it doesn't help. Need a fan plus the holes on the cover. Actually, i found that there is another heat source in my system, the canister filter. I am using a Fluval 306 behind the tank. Might be a bit over kill for my small tank, but I need the flow for my CO2 in line reactor and the surface skimmer. I found that the water flowing out of the outlet is warm. Is this normal for Fluval 306? Or this is an indication of a mulfunction?

Yeah may I know what light are you using? LED, T5 or metal hailide?
Usually T Series bulbs produce hell lot of Heat so best to upgrade to Led.

Yes, I am using LED. Don't ask me which model is it, I can't remember already. Can go home to check for you tonight if you are interested.

I am trying hc using dsm. But it melted away. No clue if it is due to temp or light. I've increased the light intensity and might get a thermometer

Is the cover made of metal? If so may be you will have better chance of heat transfer.

With the weather so hot this few day, I think is good idea to open the cover. Put your hand into the water, I quest it is warm now.
