    Hi All,

I had recently setup my aquarium. I am very new in this hobby.

I had bought a second hand CO2 cylinder with regulator. However it doesn't come with solenoid.

I read in some forums that it’s better to switch off CO2 in night, as it save CO2 and also benefit fishes.

I am planning to buy an inline solenoid. As the solenoid is attached to the CO2 pipe in place of the regulator, I am not sure whether it has any operational issues? Below is the link of the item I am interested to buy as it’s not very expensive.

Guys, you seems very proficient in this line. Can you please help to advice?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

I've tried almost all type of retail CO2 since I started this hobby from DIY CO2 using sugar water & yeast to compressed CO2 cans to CO2 cylinders. Also the various types of diffusers/reactors I've used.

Used these diffusers throughout the years.

And all I can say it this reactor co2 reactor.jpgis the most hassle free yet provide maximum dissolve CO2 to the water.

The inline reactor you mention will clog soon enough. The issue with the inlet reactor is it will reduce your flow rate and if you put it in your cabinet, there are times when your CO2 not injecting but you are not aware.

Using the CO2 reactor like I mention, you can quickly notice if, for whatever reason, there is no CO2 injection.

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

    Thanks Greenie for your response.

For the CO2 diffuser, I am using the U.P. Aqua CO2 Inline Atomizer.

However my concern is more for the solenoid I am interested to purchase.

As I seen other solenoids is attached to the valve; however the one I am looking is attached to the CO2 outlet pipe. My only worry is, in night when the CO2 solenoid stops circulation; the tube will not burst or start leaking as the pressure builds.

I was checking if someone had used or know about similar type of Solenoid then they might give me feedback.

    Thanks

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

    What solenoid you're using?

Normally the tubing is after the solenoid. So when the solenoid shuts, pressure from tubing to the inline diffuser towards the tank will slowly depressurise to tank water pressure until it equalise.

    So no worries.

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

    Hi Greenie,

Yes, you are correct. That is the normal Solenoid that attached to the valve and one side is the output tube.

The one I got have the tube at both side. I had attached the pictures.

Do anyone had used these type of solenoid? Any review on it?

    Thanks

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

Must be sleepy, but mistook inline solenoid with inline diffuser.
Yes definitely a concern if this is your setup. The pressure between bubble counter and solenoid will pressure up but not to cylinder pressure as the pressure is step down. I see double gauge on the CO2 cylinder coupling.1 gauge represent cylinder pressure, the other step down pressure.
I think maybe tube can handle. Anyway where and why you get this solenoid setup?

    Re: Inline CO2 Solenoid

It's actually the same solenoid valve used, the rectangular block has 2 female NPT threads. For most setup, one side installed with metal male connector and connect to pressure regulator/gauge directly, while the other side connect to needle valve. If you familiar and confident with your skill, you can try modify yourself.

    Hi Greenie & gimhchng,

    Thanks for your valuable advice.
Let me try modifying it if not try for few days to find any issues...

    Thanks again..
