new planted tank - advise needed

Sorry then bud, you can only add a certain amount of fish per tank size. 2 foots are very limited with too many fish. How many did you think you could put in a 2 foot.

Hey Hannes, it can help if you could tell how many fish to put in a tank. I've read somewhere that 1cm of fish size is to litre tank volume. Is it true? thanks in advance!

Welcome @chongs tank looking good... Being the Tiger Barb King with my previous tank The Puntius Effect that tank would be fine with no more then maybe 8-10 tiger barbs. Most viewed thread of all time with over 87000 viewsyou could also threw in like a tiny piece of flake every day to supply the bacteria with a food source. The usual one was 1inch per gallon which is about 4 Litre.
But there are some school of thoughts need to consider the "mass" abit more , but eventually individual species produce waste a bit differently.

Your tank seems like its a 60x30x36 =64l
So with the hose and media there is surely some drop in the flow rate.

64L is about 16"of fishes convert that to centimeters is 40cm of fishes.
And still need to minus off the hardscapes and soil.

So oversizing the filter with a higher flow rate in a small 2ft tank means we are able to make room for more fishes(provided they have a lot of space to swim freely).

I normally consider which part of the tank the fish takes up and limit each section to a number of fishes depending on how active they are too..

Technically true, but for a 2 by 1 feet tank after the scape and whats not, there isn't really much you can consider with regards to swimming space.
(That's why the common advise here is buy the BIGGEST tank you can house)
Generally a bigger filter in a planted setup is able to push the limits on the stocking, but still have to look at the inhabitants.

Previously my 3,1,1.2 setup.
Clown Killis, Furcatas ,threadfin rainbows, galaxy rasbora, a pair of Vaillanti , cardinals
Ottos, Yamato,Cherry Shrimps
Way over the 24" guide but the feeling is still pretty much an empty tank.


Like wise in a 4,2,2 you probably can't see many fish if you only house 120 cardinals and 20 shrimps.

Appereciate your replies, well I'm relatively new to the hobby and recovering myself from the MTS disease.. Would definitely want to keep only a single 4x2x2 in the future when I fully understand the how to keep fish happy.

Will note that 120 cardinals with 20 shrimps.
